ST. PATRICK'S DAY FESTIVITIES - CELEBRATING LIKE AN ISLANDER

by Elsie Burton

Yesterday’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Beaver Island pulled the community together once again. Each year, Islanders gather to participate in long-standing traditional games and activities that have become vital to the festive occasion. The sidewalks of downtown become packed with eager onlookers and participants as the games begin rolling. No matter what unpredictable weather March throws at the community, the event remains a local highlight!

This year was no different! People lined up to partake in the classic games that never fail to bring out the laughter, competitiveness, and sense of community that make the day so special. Where else but Beaver Island can you see people throwing fish down Main Street in the name of good fun?
In all seriousness, it’s truly heartwarming to witness the community come together for this epic tradition. Saturday’s games featured some fan favorites, including the famous fish toss, cart race, and tug-of-war challenge. Each event brought friendly competition and lighthearted moments that kept everyone on their toes.
While the island’s rich charm and lively events draw people in, it’s the community that makes the St. Patrick’s Day celebration unforgettable. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, there’s something magical about being part of this event.
If you couldn’t make it this year, don’t worry, we’ve captured the magic in some incredible photos.
Mark your calendars for next year!
